MISSION
The Save the San Juan Hotel Collective advocates through education, art, culture, and grass-root organizing to both save the San Juan Hotel from demolition as well as preserve and share the civil rights histories of the Rio Grande Valley (RGV). Through these anti-colonial strategies, we aim to uplift and shift both individual and collective consciousness as well as solidify the collective memory of the RGV border region. Our efforts contribute to the healing of historical trauma and (re)construct the landscape and policies for the well-being of RGV communities.
VISION
The Save the San Juan Hotel Collective’s vision is to restore and convert the San Juan Hotel, a nationally recognized-endangered-historical site as the permanent home of Museo 956 de Derechos Civiles (the first and only Rio Grande Valley civil rights museum). Our purpose is to serve as a community cultural space where people can heal a historical past and present in order to co-create a sustainable RGV future.
